SMU held its 11th graduation ceremony yesterday. Singapore’s Sixth President S R Nathan was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree in recognition of his contributions to Singapore, but was unable to attend as he was not well. Professor Katherine Schipper meanwhile was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Accountancy degree. A total of 2,149 students graduated this year. Among them were 1,602 bachelor degree graduates, 531 master degree graduates and 16 PhD graduates. Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing was the Guest of Honour for the event.
