NTU and SMU have no plans to adopt grade-free system

Commenting on the recent move away from grades by NUS, SMU said that it has no plans to adopt a grade-free system. SMU pointed out that almost 30 per cent of its courses have no final examinations and students taking these courses are assessed based on their assignments, which reduces students’ stress levels. Also, students are given only a pass or fail grade for modules like business study missions. In addition, all SMU students must undergo a 10-week internship, which equips them with the key qualities needed when they enter the workplace after they graduate. Many of them in fact are already hired before they even graduate.
