Cambodian women highly involved in community improvement

SMU held an annual international women’s rights conference, Women in the Community. Human rights activist, Mdm. Vinita Ramani Mohan, gave a speech about her experiences in representing affected Cambodian women in the Khmer Rouge murders at the Criminal Court for Cambodia. She said that cultural ideologies play a part in holding women back from lodging complaints against their mistreatment. However, women today feel more empowered and are therefore more open to talking about it. This 3-day conference, which ended on March 1, discussed the challenges that women face.
