SMU Associate Professor of English Literature Kirpal Singh shared his thoughts on the concept of self-service among Singaporeans. He commented that “Most Singaporeans grow up being served, and this is becoming a very menacing problem with us because the more we depend on others to serve us, the more irksome the situation is going to get. And in fact looking ahead, the development of a good high-quality domestic economy can be compromised if we don’t learn to serve ourselves.”
