Designed to resemble a pearl, Kwa Geok Choo Law Library will be an inspirational beacon to guide students

The Kwa Geok Choo Law Library, which is named after the late wife of founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, will be an integral part of the new SMU School of Law building when it is completed in 2017. According to the School’s Dean, Professor Yeo Tiong Min, the library is shaped like a pearl and is meant to be a beacon to remind students to fight for respect, truth and justice for society. Since its inception in 2007, the School of Law has been housed in the School of Accountancy building. Its current annual intake is 150 students, but this will rise to 180 students in the next three years. The school did well in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, winning second place last year when it represented Singapore for the first time. The SMU Pro Bono centre will also be located in the new building.
