SMU was one of the local teams which provided a modest challenge for the Long Beach State 49er Sailing Club at the Pan-Pacific University Sailing Championship in Xiamen, China. Part of the reason for the easy win, team captain Shane Young said, was the fact that sailing and sailboat racing still are relatively new sports in China – with many teams only having a few years’ experience.
