ARA Estate Management and the Lim Hoon Foundation, a private charitable trust founded by the company CEO John Lim Hwee Chiang, have donated $1 million to SMU. In recognition of their philanthropic efforts, SMU will name a classroom in its Lee Kong Chian School of Business after both entities in perpetuity. The funds will pay for six bond-free scholarships this year and another eight such scholarships from next year onwards. These scholarships are awarded to needy students to spur them to perform better and allow them to better concentrate on their studies. The Lim Hoon Foundation is named after Mr John Lim’s late father, who used to be the vice-principal of Tao Nan School. The senior Mr Lim dedicated his entire life to education work.
