In response to the open letter by the Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Eddie Teo, SMU Associate Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan said that it is not enough for the PSC to choose its scholars from a diverse pool of talents. He was of the opinion that the organisation must also encourage rational debate and allow for different opinions to be expressed in order to avoid group-think. Mr Teo had said in the letter that the PSC is working towards greater diversity in Singapore’s public service, to guard against elitism. He also highlighted that the PSC has been redefining its concept of merit over the years.
