The Straits Times Senior Writer Clarissa Oon wrote a commentary about a recent exchange in Parliament in which SMU Associate Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan asked last Monday if the names of those seeking appointment as NMPs should be made public at some stage of the selection process. Clarissa Oon generally agreed with Associate Prof Tan’s views that there is a need to make the NMP system more transparent as she felt there is now a corresponding need for a more resilient and robust civil society. Making the NMP scheme more transparent will be a small but valuable step in that process, she wrote.
