Robert Yeo, who teaches creative writing at SMU, wrote a commentary about the past and future developments of local theatre. He highlighted the plight of local playwrights, and opined that staging retrospectives of "old theatre" should not be seen as a historic act but an intrinsic one to determine the plays’ currency. He added that if these plays can stand the test of time, then the restaging would have contributed to the process of canon-construction, which is the second significant role of exercising retrospectives.
