SMU wins inaugural award for best employee work-life practices

SMU has received the accolade of being one of the “Best Companies for Mums”, in recognition of its efforts in making Flexible Work Arrangements (FWAs) work for its employees and enabling work-life harmony through its human resource policies.

The “Best Companies for Mums” contest was jointly organised by the NTUC Women’s Development Secretariat (WDS) and the Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices (TAFEP). The inaugural contest was held to recognise and highlight the different ways in which companies have helped their employees achieve better work-life harmony.

More than 100 nominations were received from employees, out of which 12 companies and 4 supervisors were selected as winners. These companies have arrangements such as pro-family employee leave schemes, support schemes for mothers and infrastructure support which include lactation facilities and onsite childcare.

Winners each received a "Best Companies for Mums" plaque at an awards ceremony held at Sheraton Towers Singapore on Thursday 11 July 2013. Mr Lim Swee Say, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office and Secretary-General, NTUC, graced the occasion as Guest-of-Honour.

Terence Tan, SMU Vice President of Human Resources and Faculty Administration, remarked: “We are extremely honoured to be one of the recipients of this inaugural Award. The Award has affirmed our commitment to incorporate the best work-life practices for our employees so that we can continue to attract and retain the best talents in SMU.”
