Lights back on in Singapore blogosphere after blackout protest

On Singapore's first online blackout protest against Media Development Authority (MDA)’s new licensing rules, Academic Director of SMU Executive Development Dr Michael Netzley said that the online community might be “a bit too quick to pull the trigger” in its protests. However, he praised the interest shown by people in the issue while finding peaceful ways to express their opinions. “If they choose to use a blackout to state their point, I think that is also a very good thing,” he said, adding that the move, combined with coverage on social and mainstream media, was likely to be good in raising awareness.
