Government should “co-invest” in lowering housing prices: Academics suggest submitting part of the profit only after flat resales are completed

Ideas to lower HDB prices are being explored by the Government. However, SMU Adjunct Professor of Economics Larry Haverkamp pointed out that artificially lowering the price of new HDB flats will cause more negative side effects. He said that cheaper housing with more restrictions will be welcomed by some, but not all. On the whole, the change may not improve the existing situation. He suggested that HDB should continue to build more HDB flats instead.
