Finding a spouse ranks lowly for grads

The results of a recent survey showed yesterday that dating and socialising are low on the list of priorities for undergraduates in Singapore. This is despite measures rolled out by the Government earlier this year to encourage couples to get married and have babies in view of Singapore's low birth rates. The survey found that 60 per cent of 400 undergraduates polled from four Singapore universities – SMU, NUS, NTU and SIM - are single. And 70 per cent of these singles have no plans to actively pursue a relationship. When all respondents were asked what their immediate concerns were, finding a lifelong partner ranked last out of seven choices. Getting good grades, earning money and finding a job were the top three picks instead.
