Both the People’s Action Party (PAP) and Workers’ Party (WP) held a press conference on Thursday evening. SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan said that the WP wished to conclude its arguments over the past few days with the help of the media, and that it was well aware of the media’s influence. It was also an acknowledgement that the media had reported on the party fairly. On the other hand, he said that rallies have never been an effective tool for the PAP to lobby for votes, thus a press conference was necessary for it to convey its message to voters. He added that it is unlikely for any opposition party to set up an assembly point on Saturday. It might be perceived as arrogance in the eyes of other opposition parties, if WP had decided to have one. Low Thia Khiang’s comments to supporters to “wait for good news at home” showed the party’s confidence, and might influence undecided voters to vote for them.
