Li Lilian attacks ruling party as being “short-sighted”

Workers’ Party (WP) introduced four new faces at its rallies for the Punggol East by-election. These members are young, qualified and joined WP only after the last General Election (GE). SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan said that WP is actively introducing new members to showcase the party’s capabilities and to allow the newcomers to gain political experience. He said: “WP’s emphasis on the Parliament needing a strong opposition party to carry out checks and balances on the ruling party is appealing to some professionals and has attracted them to join and strengthen the party following the last GE. The introduction of these candidates will serve to impress upon voters that the WP is a serious political party. Moveover, these new members can learn how to interact with the voters through public speeches and can gain experience for the next GE.”
