George Yeo declined to comment on whether he will run for Punggol East by-election

On the ideal candidate for Speaker of Parliament, SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan said that the Parliament currently has the largest number of opposition MPs since 1966. Hence it was important to find someone with political clout such as Wong Kan Seng or Mah Bow Tan to maintain order during intense debates. Assistant Professor Tan added that while PAP would most likely send in someone familiar with Punggol East for the by-election, he or she was unlikely to be an MP.
