SMU organised the Fraud Detection in Mobile Advertising competition as part of the Asian Conference of Machine Learning earlier this month. The team from the Institute for Infocomm Research came up tops out of 95 international teams. During the competition, the teams were given anonymous online usage data of consumers, and were tasked to ferret out advertisers who cheat by using software to generate false clicks on their own banner ads.
