SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan commented that “Given the material streak in Singaporeans as well as the pragmatic outlook towards life. We cannot deny the fact that the cost of raising a child is something that is high on the minds of many Singaporean parents. So I think the attempt to try to provide for subsidies to help manage the cost of raising a child will help to reduce the significance of the dollars and cents behind raising a child. And I think the Government also recognises that there is only so much that money can do… in recognising that more can be done, the Prime Minister has indicated that there will be a lot more that will be put in place.”
