Delivering his National Day Rally speech on 26 August, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong expressed worry about the double standards shown towards foreigners in Singapore but noted that success stories in integration do exist. Mr Lee described SMU Vietnamese undergraduate Le Ha Thanh Mai as being so localised that no one could tell she was a foreigner except for her name. She said: "I'm grateful to be here, and really hope I can be a good example for Singaporeans to see that there are many foreigners here who are contributing back."
