At SMU, alcohol consumption is allowed in common-access areas of the city-based campus, but not in restricted areas open only to students and staff. These include classrooms and seminar rooms at all hours. Miss Dierdre Grace Morgan, a third-year law student at SMU, said while it was fine for universities to have rules about drinking on campus, they should not come across as "authoritarian". "The students are, after all, adults," she said. At NUS, drinking alcohol is generally not allowed and even convenience stores are not permitted to stock alcohol.
