SMU Assistant Professor of Law and Nominated MP Eugene Tan said that the recent high-profile cases involving the mandatory death sentence had “revealed changing social mores towards the death penalty regime” and cautioned that the proposed changes were “a calibrated refinement”. “I certainly hope that defence lawyers don't get too excited because the tough stance on drug trafficking still remains,” he said.
