Veteran analyst PN Balji said in a commentary article in The New Straits Times that WP was experiencing a phase of ‘identity crisis'. To this, SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan commented that it was still early days to make such a judgement. He said that the limelight is now on the PAP. If their policies are well-implemented, WP would say that it's because they have played an effective ‘supervisory' role; if policies are not well-executed, WP could also emphasise the importance for balances and checks in the government. Rather than saying that WP is experiencing an ‘identity crisis', he was of the opinion that what WP lacks is the ability to come up with alternative policies.
