SMU Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources David Wagner discussed the importance of sleep vis-à-vis employee productivity at work. He commented that inadequate sleep has rather powerful effects on a range of outcomes that managers should take note of, including reduced self-control, lower satisfaction at work, as well as a higher likelihood of cyberloafing, and discriminatory and unethical employee attitudes / behaviours at work. He offered some suggestions on how employees can improve the work environment and work practices to derive more productive, satisfied and motivated workers.
