On the high going rate for internships in the banking sector, the figure could soar in different banks, especially for those picked to intern in the lucrative investment banking arms and if they are posted overseas. This is because of the long hours, high risk and good profit margins. A stark contrast to the banking sector, however, is law. SMU, for example, recommends that law interns be paid $400 to $500 a month. In some cases, interns are unpaid. First-year law undergraduate, Ms I. Yeo, who will be doi.g a two-week internship at an international law firm said the exposure is more important to her than the pay and added that she has chosen a firm that she might be keen to return to in the future.
