ST reader Dr Huang Shoou Chyuan commented, in a letter to the forum, that the by-election should be held after the Budget is passed by Parliament and that failing to have one would not just disingenuously breach the spirit of the law on by-elections, but would also signal to Hougang residents that their right to have an elected MP speak up for them in Parliament is unimportant. He quoted SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan's comment that ?three months' would be a reasonable period.
