Concerns about the environment are influencing consumers in their shopping habits and lifestyle choices. Mr Jared Tham from the Lien Centre for Social Innovation at the Singapore Management University has been buying fair trade products such as tea, cookies and chocolate for more than five years. Mr Tham said he was introduced to the concept of fair trade by his friends and does not mind paying a premium of 10 to 15 per cent on these products because fair trade addresses important issues such as environmental protection and equitable wages.
