A survey conducted by NUS revealed that 70% of employers were of the view that its graduates lack the skills required for job-seeking. One employer who has recruited the highest number of local graduates rates SMU graduates tops in terms of oral communication skills, maturity and bearing. SMU's director of office of career services, Sim Cher Young shared that SMU started its Finishing Touch programme 10 years ago to help develop students' character as well as impart soft skills such as social etiquette, career planning, and resume and cover letter-writing.
