The gloom about a potential global recession has generated many recommendations to stimulate private consumption. An almost unanimous chorus advocates transfer of the Western mass consumption model to Asia – oblivious to the fact that in so doing, the global economy could implode under the weight of resource demand. In this article, SMU Adjunct Professor Joergen Oerstroem Moeller proposed a tax system which could reward products with a longer life span and punish products with a shorter one.
