The Singapore Sports Council (SSC) has refuted criticism that it profits from increasing annual participation figures at the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore. The criticism arose following the death of a participant on Sunday. Malcolm Sng, 22, had collapsed at the finish line in front of City Hall after completing the event's 21.1km half-marathon. Malcolm, a business student at the SMU, had completed the half-marathon in 1hr 53mins. Known for his fitness, he was also a distinguished honour graduate of the Singapore Armed Forces Specialist Cadet School, and attended St Andrew's Secondary School and Nanyang Polytechnic.
