SMU assistant professor Eugene Tan observed that the latest lineup of the PAP's Central Executive Committee (CEC) was possibly its youngest over the past 20-30 years and it was apparent that the Party had embarked on a rigorous self-renewal. He also opined that the new generation of leaders, like Heng Swee Kiat, Tan Chuan-Jin and Chan Chun Sing would be the Party's focus in future, while female cadres like Grace Fu and Denise Phua as well as the NTUC-backed Seah Kian Peng, underscored the Party's effort to pay greater attention to communities with unique needs/requirements. In his view, the renewal showed PAP was making major changes in response to the GE results in May – the Party had decided to “go back to the basics†to portray itself as a dynamic and inclusive political party with refreshing ideas and could represent the majority of Singaporeans.
