This July saw the first batch of 118 students graduate from SMU's School of Law, set up in 2007 as Singapore's second law school after NUS. They will add to the expected 4,000 lawyers who will be practising Singapore law this year. As more leading Singapore law firms set their sights on cultivating a strong regional presence, lawyers are increasingly expected to hit the ground running in a globalised environment. SMU School of Law dean, Prof Michael Furmston shares his views on the changing legal landscape and how the school prepares its students for cross-cultural careers.
