Commenting on the trend that more Singapore professionals are not able to clear their annual leave, Associate Professor Tan Hwee Hoon of SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business said that Singapore professionals are indeed working very long hours and this trend is foremost among the world. She added that companies may hope that the employees spend more time in the office but this does not mean that the staff will be more productive or creative. It is especially important for Singapore workers to have adequate annual leave as we do not have the four seasons like in the US, hence monotony at work needs to be broken for employees to rest, relax and recharge themselves.
