Defining Singapore — through ideals, values

In President Tony Tan's first address at the opening of the 12th Parliament, a recurrent theme was the changed political landscape characterised by "changing generations" and "diverse expectations". In sync with this, the Government has outlined an ambitious set of policy objectives and priorities for the next five years. What caught Assistant Professor Eugene Tan's eye, however, was the tentative emphasis on post-material concerns and aspirations.
