Commenting on the results of the Presidential Election, law lecturer Eugene Tan said that it showed that Singaporeans are still not ready to have a president who rocked the boat too much. As both Dr Tony Tan and Dr Tan Cheng Bock polled a total of almost 70 per cent of the popular vote, the results further suggested that the people wanted a president who could work with the Government and also that being associated with the PAP was not such a liability as was widely believed.
