Polytechnic principals feel that the Government's promise to add 2,000 university places will still be insufficient to meet demand as the majority of polytechnic graduates now view polytechnics as a step to university instead of the final stop, and the calibre of polytechnic students is also improving. A recent case is a Republic Polytechnic student who attained a GPA of 3.79 but still could not land a place to study business at NUS, NTU or SMU.
