Rating plan benefits both charities and donors

In light of NTU's large $150 million donation from the Lee Foundation for their upcoming medical school, the Straits Times reported that most of the donations given to local universities come from smaller cheques made out by thousands of donors, which add up to tens of millions every year. SMU collected an average of $21 million a year from about 250 donors a year over the past three years. This figure does not include donations from alumni. NUS and NTU collected $94 million from 8,010 donors and $26 million from 10,000 donors respectively for the past financial year.
