Celebrating the New Year in April

Foreign-born residents make up one in four Singaporeans. Hence, more grassroots groups and associations are celebrating the New Year in April for countries like India, Thailand, Myanmar Laos, Cambodia and Bangladesh. Dr Hoon Chang Yau, assistant professor of Asian studies at the Singapore Management University said that one of the reasons these celebrations are organised is that they give foreigners more room to express their identities adding to the diversity here.
