He Zongying, a final-year business management student at SMU, noted that gender equality in a modern, developed society, cannot and should not be at the expense of meritocracy, and that while Singapore has had to wait 44 years to finally see a full-fledged woman minister in Government, we should be glad that she is someone to be proud of.
