Survey: Over 80% think suicide is related to stigma

SMU conducted a nation-wide study called "Save.Me." on 2,960 locals from January to February this year, to understand the public's perception on suicide. The study, which is supported by the Samaritans of Singapore, found that over 80% of respondents associate suicidal behaviour with stigma, whilst at the same time, only one in three people will lend a helping hand to those who have suicidal thoughts. The survey also revealed that less than 10% of the respondents believed that people with suicidal tendencies or those affected by suicidal behaviours could receive effective assistance locally.
