The supposition that increasing the representation of women on a company’s board would make board decision-making processes more thorough and comprehensive was tested in the paper Female Board Representation and Corporate Acquisition Intensity. The paper was co-authored by SMU Assistant Professor of Accounting Sterling Huang and Craig Crossland, Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Notre Dame. The paper examines how board gender characteristics influence a firm’s mergers and acquisitions behaviour. Female board representation was found to be negatively related to both the number of acquisitions made and acquisition size.
